Bamboo Bonsai is the solo project of Brisbane multi-instrumentalist/producer Yusuf Memon. Taking inspiration from the DIY approach of Neo-Psychedelic multi-instrumentalist/producers such as Kevin Parker (Tame Impala) and Ruban Neilson (UMO), Bamboo Bonsai (which on stage, is translated to a septet) delivers a live show which is an immersive, psychedelic experience, juxtaposing lush, dreamy guitar lines with face melting, fuzzed out riffs and infectious funk groves. 

 

Whether the fluid, virtuosic drumming of those such as Billy Cobham and Yussef Dayes, or the ear melting textural approach from the Shoegazers of the ‘90s, Bamboo Bonsai draws from unlikely combinations of inspiration to form a unique and diverse sonic palate. Launching the Surreality EP in late December 2020, Bamboo Bonsai are gearing up for a big 2021, starting on a stage no more fitting than Dark World.
